Default "LFG - no morons" - Odd way of making friends

I see this a lot. People announce they want a group and then go on to clarify they don't want morons, idiots, noobs, etc. What are they thinking?

Do people actually believe that by saying this, some player will think to himself, "gee, I would like to have joined that group but I can't because I am a moron and they don't accept morons."

Or do people think that by saying this, they are somehow elevating themselves and dismissing the possibility that they themselves are a moron, idiot, noob or whatever? Are they really trying to say "I am a superior player?" If so, saying it doesn't make it so, and it doesn't come across that way.

Instead, when I see someone yell out "LFG - no morons" I hear:

"I am an immature person. I have no concept of teamwork and no tact. I have an inflated ego. I blame other people for anything that doesn't go my way. I don't work well with others and will be an annoyance in the group."

I never invite people to groups who do this. I don't join groups who do this. In my opinion anyone who yells "LFG - no morons" has already disqualified themself ...

Agreed. I'd never join a group that announced itself in that manner.

Agree. I've found that those are the people who will scream at you if you make a mistake, or scream at you if they make a mistake and you can't cover for them. Basically, I see it as a filter. When trying to find people I want to play with, I'm glad they've put those shouts out, so that I know not to play with them.

Favorite: I lost Elona twice. The first was my fault, the second wasn't. Aggitated, I join one of those groups, and the person who put that shout out tells us "Try to keep up." And proceeds to charge headfirst into the large group of minotaurs, before our monk had even loaded in.

Ditto.

My fun is not babysitting people like this. And this is what ends up happening.

As a healing monk, and normally the only one in a group 9 times out of 10, I expect everyone to try as best they can... listen... and focus on getting things done without blame.

Since, I never, EVER worry about getting into groups (normally I get join group requests the moment I warp into any zone), I just make sure that everyone understands how I work and how I can best keep people (and myself) alive. If they cannot handle my requests to not run off on their own or draw stupid stuff on the mini map or whatnot, I say thank you for their time, say goodbye, and leave. No hard feelings.

I have played (/age) : 73 hours and some change.

Number of deaths (/deaths) : 34

There are reasons for these numbers... less than 1 death every 2 hours played, it's not just luck. IF my job is to keep you alive, then THAT is how I measure success.

I know I think that all the time...

...oh wait. No I don't. I usually think "That's the guy who gonna sprint off to the side and pull sixteen hydra into our fight and get us all killed. NEXT."

People like that only shoot themselves in the foot.

Well every group has to have a moron. By saying "lfg - no morons" clearly that individual is stating that there is only room for one moron, and that's your candidate right there because they don't want to compete for moronship with anybody else in the group.

By the same token, you have to admit its exceedingly annoying to play in like 2 or 3 straight teams who are all jackasses that don't understand the concept of teamwork. I think that its pretty clear when somebody is out in the desert and thinks its a good idea to try to solo every mob or breaks away from the group that he/she is a moron.

I usually put it more tactfully: Mo/Healer LFG that can actually work together

I think people will have less of a tendacy to try stupid things after they join a group with a leader who said that, but the leader should realize it will take him two years to get people to group with him. Who wants to group with someone thats a jerk, and will probably end up being the one thats going to get the group killed?

I know this is a semi-silly post. But I'm sure it was sent as a warning that Hey we've had trouble with idiots and I'm tired of dealing with them. SO if you join then we're letting you know up front, don't be an idiot. They just shortened it a bit and got rid of the tact.

Basicly i believe that people that say no morons are truely the morons. If they aren't morons then why are they stupid enough to state something that most people wont call themselves or classify themselves as a moron. I never joined a group that wants no morons and hope i never do. That is just wrong.

Nah, it's far better to join up and then say, "Oh, you said no morons. Sorry, guess that means I gotta go."

The humor would be lost on them, but not on you!

You should be more apreciative! They are making it clear to you without joing the group they are a moron. Additionally, every one else in the group is at the least showing questionable judgement. A valuable peice of information. Most of the time you don't find this out until you join. You should thank them for announcing their stupidity and ignorance.

You know what might be entertaining? Creating a group made up entirely of people who say "no morons" and then having a good hearty laugh at the ensuing hilarity.
